She was dumped over the phone by her boyfriend of six years Joel Corry last year.

But Sophie Kasaei mended her heartache with hunky cast newbie Alex MacPherson while they shot scenes for MTV's Geordie Shore in Australia as she put her ex well and truly behind her for good.

Initially the Geordie Shore star found it 'hard' to endure the 'demoralising and degrading' dating scene in Oz but she soon struck up a casual romance with the Gold Coast-based hunk living with herself and her cast members in the villa.

Moving on! Sophie Kasaei mended her heartache with hunky cast newbie Alex MacPherson while they shot scenes for MTV's Geordie Shore in Australia

'Going on the pull in Australia is a little bit demoralising and downgrading. You don’t want to take a random boy back,' she told MailOnline.

'So it’s a lot easier to get with someone in the house who is going through the same experience as you and someone you have got to know by living with them.

'It was really hard but at the same time it was really nice being able to wake up with someone that I had a bond with.'

Not putting a label on their intimate bond, Sophie admitted it was 'freeing' to be able to let her hair down and really enjoy being single after six years of being confined in a 'respectful' relationship while partying in the limelight.

'I didn’t think that much into it. I didn’t think – oh my god, I can’t wait to get married and have kids or whatever. I just wanted to be in there, have a good time being single and not have to worry,' she said.

'Obviously when you are in a relationship and you’re in Geordie Shore, I like to be respectful. But while I was single, I was just having fun and being free.

'I wasn’t thinking when I get home I wanna to marry this boy. I was just enjoying the time that I had and being as free as I possibly could.'

Although the co-stars didn't pursue a serious romance during their time together, Sophie and Alex remained in touch – at least for now – as she continues to settle back to her day-to-day life in Newcastle.

Just last week, Alex made the five-hour round trip from Australia to Bali especially to see Sophie while she was out in Indonesia with Holly Hagan on a business trip promoting a fashion brand.

She added: 'I was in Bali for a business trip with Holly for a fashion brand. Obviously Alex is only a five-hour flight away so he could pop over.'

The MTV personality admitted she was initially wary the short-lived fling could end 'in tears' after she watched the brief romances backfire on her friends and housemates when their friendships got messy over the years on Geordie Shore.

Who said love was dead? Just last week, Alex made the five-hour round trip from Australia to Bali especially to see Sophie while she was out in Indonesia with Holly Hagan on a business trip promoting a fashion brand

'It always ends in tears when you always get with boys in the house. All the other girls have gone through that, I’ve never had to,' she explained.

'All the girls in the house had relationships and got with boys in the house and I’ve always watched on and I’ve always thought “stop it, don’t go there”.

'Being single in the house is really different, and now I sort of understanding why girls get with boys in the house, when you’re living with someone it’s a lot different than when you have to go out.'

Fellow Geordie Shore star Abbie Holborn echoed Sophie's sentiments that dating in Australia was 'hard' as a result of their different flirting methods.

'To be honest I found it quite hard. I think a lot of the girls did. Back in Newcastle, you know more people and it’s kind of the same banter,' she said.

As well as adapting to being single, Sophie has made a number of lifestyle changes which saw the voluptuous star lose an impressive two stone over the last few months — and she looks absolutely incredible.

Yet keeping the weight off has been the real challenge as Sophie admitted she initially struggled with maintaining the partying and takeaway lifestyle while the cameras are rolling for Geordie Shore.

Check her out: As well as adapting to being single, Sophie has made a number of lifestyle changes which saw the voluptuous star lose an impressive two stone over the last few months — and she looks absolutely incredible

However, the bubbly personality revealed she is determined to stay in sensational shape because she doesn't want people to say she couldn't keep up her trim figure.

She explained: 'I think it’s really hard filming. People eating kebabs, people love to watch that and it’s really hard to mix the lifestyle outside the show with the lifestyle on the job. There is a big difference between the fitness and the job filming Geordie Shore.

'I found a balance, if I went out I drank vodka sodas, if I came back from a night out I’d get them to get a chicken kebab. Training and exercise on a tight schedule is hard because I’m on such a tight schedule I can’t really get up – and who wants to get up on a hangover?

Geordie Shore premieres tonight at 10pm on MTV.

So chic: Abbie flashed a glimpse of her toned tummy in a crop top while Chloe showcased her sensational curves in a fitted jumpsuit

'Everyone in Australia is very healthy, very beach-body focused. So I thought I don’t want to be in healthy.

'I constantly am very very aware of what I’m doing and what I’m eating because I think people just love to say people fail. I know if I put on weight, people would love to say I’ve failed. So I don’t want to do it for them, I want to do it for me. I don’t think I’d ever go back there.'

Abbie added: 'We all know if we put on a few pounds it’s not the end of the world.'
